MORE CHARLIE CHAN MOVIES FROM THE 30S & 40S: February 3 – April 20, 1:45-9:30PM (9 Weeks), University of Las Vegas, OLLI, Paradise Campus. Take a closer look into some of the popular Charlie Chan B movies from the 30s and 40s, with life-long movie fan, Keith McMillen. Get some background on the actors, directors, and studios who produced them. Hear about the four different sons and one daughter who “helped” Charlie solve these mysteries and gain some insights into how the series changed over its lifetime. (Cancelled) LEFT COAST CRIME 2020, “MURDER’S A BEACH”: March 12-15, 2020, San Diego Marriott, Mission Valley Hotel. Left Coast Crime is an annual mystery convention sponsored by mystery fans, both readers and authors each year in Western North America. Not only have they hosted their mystery conventions on the Hawaiian Islands, they’ve had “Earl Derr Biggers” as their traditional “Ghost of Honor!” (each convention has a Ghost of honor presiding, this year it’s Raymond Chandler.) APRIL 2020:

(Cancelled) CHAN FILM: CASTLE IN THE DESERT (1942): EL SEGUNDO CALIFORNIA: Friday, April 24th, 8:15PM, and Saturday, April 25th, 2:30pm & 8:15pm, The Old Town Music Hall, El Segundo, California. One of the best of all the Charlie Chan movies! The ambiance for suspense is nicely set in a castle in the middle of nowhere. And there’s always that famous phrase: “One of us is a murderer”. We just love it when they say that!  This is an enjoyable film with a fine cast, and well worth your time. Give it a try. (Tickets: $10, Seniors (62+) $8)

OCTOBER 2020:

(Cancelled) BOUCHERCON MYSTERY CONVENTION, “SACRAMENTO, WHERE MURDER IS A CAPITOL CRIME.” 15-18 October, Sacramento CA. The Hyatt Regency and Sheraton Grand will be the site of all Bouchercon 2020 programming except for the Opening Ceremonies and Saturday Banquet/Anthony Award Ceremony which will be held at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. The Auditorium is a short walk from the hotels, and transportation will be available for those who desire it.
